The Mystery Of The Ark Of The Covenant

When the Ark of the Covenant comes to my mind, I think of Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark movie. This film was released in 1981.

The Ark of the Covenant is a very interesting object in the Bible because of its power described, but there are only bits and pieces about the Ark. When we read the Bible we get a story told down through the generations. That story might have been changed or lost over time. Like the game whisper down the lane. When I read the passages about the Ark of the Covenant many questions come to mind.

Before I get into the mystery of the ark, let me describe what the ark was, how big it was and what it was made out of.

This what the Ark of the Covenant would look like next to a human.

The ark was a rectangular box (’ārôn) made of acacia wood, and measured 2½ x 1½ x 1½ cubits (i.e. c. ×½ x 2½ feet or c. 1.22 m x 76 cm x 76 cm). The whole was covered with gold and was carried on poles inserted in rings at the four lower corners. The lid, or ‘mercy-seat’, was a gold plate surrounded by two antithetically placed cherubs with outspread wings.

Was the ark in Egypt before Moses took it out?

According to the Bible, it looks like it was not in Egypt before Moses left there with the Israelites. The first mention of the ark is in Exodus 25:15. However just because It is not written in the bible doesn't mean that it wasn't in Egypt.

An interesting clue shows up that makes one wonder if the story of the ark is all there.

This tomb is located in the Biggest Pyramid in Giza. Why is it so important is that the Ark of the Covenant could fit inside of the tomb. The inside dimensions of this tomb are the same as the outside dimensions of the Ark of the Covenant. Hmmm?

If it was in Egypt what were the Egyptians doing with The Ark of the Covenant?

What was in the Ark that gave it power was it just the presence of God or was it a form a technology?

Did Moses steal the Ark from the Egyptians, or was it divinely giving to him because the Egyptians were using the Ark for evil?

What happened to the ark after Babylon invaded Jerusalem?

Is The Ark of the Covenant still around today?
There are many possibilities.

These are just a few questions, but I am sure there is more. In this post, I will attempt to better understand the mystery of the Ark of the Covenant. Stay tuned for more...
